Glastron Carlson - Anaheim, CA
|
The Glastron/Carlson boats are a bit more of a known entity and come with a well-documented history due to the company size and popularity from the James Bond films "Moonraker" and "Live and Let Die".
The boat chase scenes include vessels fit for an elusive British spy and cement the Glastron's place in 1970's boat design history. Often mistaken for the boat from the Bond movies is the Glastron Scimitar. This unique boat featured unique styling and T-Tops that were inspired by the son of Carlson owner, Art Carlson. |
The Carlson brand dates back to the early 1960s when Art Carlson primarily produced flat bottom and catamaran racing boats. In 1968 his company was merged with Bob Hammond's company, Glastron, based out of Austin, TX. Glastron was originally founded by Bob, Bill Glastron, and Guy Woodard back in 1956. Some of Glastron's most notable design innovations where their SSV and Aqualift hull designs that were allegedly copied by or stolen from other Retro Runabout manufacturers of the day depending on who you ask. According to the US Coast Guard vessel manufacturer registry, Glastron Carlson went out of business officially on December 30th, 1987.
